Call for Documentary Films
I. Name and Content: An
important component of the 16th Congress of the International Union of
Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences (to be held in Kunming,
China, from July 15 to 23 in 2008) will be an Ethnographic Film
Festival. Aimed to promote visual anthropology in general and
contribute to the 16th Congress of the IUAES in specific, the
Ethnographic Film Festival now has a working committee and we are in
the process of calling for submissions of high-quality documentary
films for screening and contest.
II. Theme of Festival
The
theme of this festival is Humanity, Development, and Cultural
Diversity, corresponding to the same theme of the 16th Congress of
IUAES. We encourage filmmakers to submit their documentaries along with
texts such as research reports, academic theses and monographs.
III. Instructions for Participation
There
is no separate registration fee to take part in the Festival, but those
who wish to have their films screened at the festival and enter the
contest must be registered as participants in the 16th Congress of
IUAES. Registration information for the Congress can be found at
www.icaes2008.org. To enter the film contest, a documentary film must
have been produced after 2004. Works submitted for screening are not
subjected to this requirement.
The acceptable formats for
contest of the festival could be VHS (NTSC), VHS (PAL), DVD, BetaSP,
Digibeta, HD, DV/DVCAM. The acceptable formats for screening of the
festival could be DVD. All submissions should have English subtitles.
The submission form is provided below. A biographic sketch of the
primary producer/director of any submission should be included in the
submission along with two posters, research reports, academic papers
and monographs
The deadline for all submissions is January 31, 2008 as verified by postmarks.
All
the expenses accrued during the mailing of the films shall be borne by
the participants. The festival’s working committee is not liable for
the loss or damage of the materials during their mailing. It is however
responsible for the safe storage of the relevant materials after they
are mailed to us. The materials received will not be returned.
